Coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has revealed why the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, cannot sack him because of the poor result recorded by his team against Lesotho on Thursday.
The Super Eagles recorded a disappointing 1-1 draw against Lesotho in the 2026 World Cup qualifying game in Uyo.
It was a game many would have expected the Super Eagles to win comfortably but it turned out Jose Peseiro’s side had to fight to get a draw.
The Portuguese was asked how he would feel if the NFF decides to sack him over the result.
He responded, “But why? I will explain the performance. 76% ball possession against 24. Many goal opportunities.
“The opponent shot two times at our goal and scored. Okay, I’m.sad. I’m sad of course. I’m definitely disappointed also but the team tried to get the maximum score.
“I’m sad about the result but about the performance, the other team stayed behind for 90 minutes and went forward for only four times. We had a lot of opportunities.”
Nigeria’s next game is away against Zimbabwe, being their second game of the qualifying series.
