According to reports, Manchester United have increased its desire to acquire young Brazilian midfielder Joao Gomes before the transfer window closes.
A few months ago, it was first reported that United was interested in the Flamengo star and that the club’s executives were prepared to pay £32 million to sign him.
Since then, Gomes has acknowledged that he actually prefers a transfer to Liverpool, a Premier League rival.
The 21-year-old declared during a live Instagram video event that he wanted to join Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
“Liverpool are a team I’d play for. I have the greatest desire to play,” said Gomes (via ESPN Brasil).
“Playing in the Champions League is my biggest dream and that of my family, my biggest dream in football.”
Unfortunately for Gomes, there has been no indication that the Reds have expressed any interest in hiring him.
Then, with journalist Julio Miguel Neto providing an update on the situation, United has a chance to strike.
In light of the departures of midfielders Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, and Andreas Pereira this summer, he confirmed on YouTube that United wants the youngster to bolster their ranks.
The Red Devils allegedly sent scouts to Rio once more to observe Gomes in action. Then, a formal approach is likely to occur.
