Luka Modric has called the sale of Casemiro, a star midfielder for Real Madrid, to Manchester United this summer a “shame.”
The two played together on a Madrid team that dominated the last ten years, winning three La Liga championships, five UEFA Champions Leagues, and three FIFA Club World Cups at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Manchester United announced on Friday that they had reached an agreement to sign the Brazilian midfielder. The club is expected to pay €60 million (£51 million) for his services, plus up to an additional €10 million in add-ons.
After Real Madrid’s convincing 4-1 victory over Celta Vigo, Modric expressed his disappointment at losing Casemiro to the media:
“The Casemiro thing is a shame, we have made history with him, he has been a fundamental piece for us and we are going to miss him a lot, as a player and a person.
“This is part of football, I am sad to see him go but we have to keep going without him and each player has to give even more in terms of the things he did.”
