Former Barcelona and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez has officially signed a two-year contract with Gremio in Brazil.

Legendary Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez recently left his hometown club Nacional and joined Brazilian powerhouse Gremio. With his new team, the 35-year-old has agreed to a two-year contract. Suarez reportedly turned down offers from the MLS and Saudi Arabia.

The seventh club in Suarez’s illustrious career is Gremio. His most prosperous period in Europe was when he played for Barcelona, where he was a member of the illustrious MSN forward line with Lionel Messi and Neymar and won four La Liga championships and a Champions League.

Renato Gaucho, Suarez’s new manager, will be looking to Suarez for big things after the club was relegated to the Brazilian second division last season.

“May the Gremio fans be prepared to enjoy these two wonderful years and try to achieve great things.” said Suarez following the move.

Football in Brazilian clubs is frantic. Gremio was successful in winning the Copa Libertadores, South America’s top club football award, before being demoted only four years later.

The opening match of the season for Gremio is scheduled for January 21 against Caxias. Suarez will want to leave his mark in a new nation and take his new team up the league.
