Former Arsenal star Perry Groves says it wouldn’t make sense for David Raya to join the Gunners.
Mikel Arteta is reportedly keen on signing the Brentford goalkeeper, who is rated at around £40million, to provide some competition to Aaron Ramsdale for the No.1 jersey at the Emirates Stadium.
Raya, 27, has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich as a replacement for Manuel Neuer.
And Groves believes this Arsenal rumour could be the work of his agent to force Bayern into action, as there’s no way he displaces Ramsdale in the Gunners team.
“Sometimes you’ve got to think what party has put that story out,” Groves said on the Sunday Session on talkSPORT.
“I’m no conspiracy theorist, but David Raya, no way would he go to Arsenal because Aaron Ramsdale is the established No.1 and David Raya has been so brilliant for Brentford.
“Raya wouldn’t go there to be a number two to see if he could oust Aaron Ramsdale, would he? He hasn’t got that time in his career.
“Manuel Neuer had a bit of falling out last year at Bayern Munich, didn’t he? After his skiing incident.
“So that just smacks to me that maybe it’s a taster. It’s saying to Bayern Munich, you better pay the money because someone else is interested.”
