Sadio Mane has been told that leaving Liverpool for Bayern Munich will ‘ruin the best two years of his career.’
According to Dean Saunders, who cannot understand why the 30-year-old would want to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side.
He claimed Mane will ‘coast for two years and ruin the best years of his life as a footballer,’ referring to Georginio Wijnaldum and Philippe Coutinho’s respective moves away from Liverpool.
“Why, for the life of me, I still can’t get my head round why you’d want to leave Liverpool right now when you are playing the best football of your career, the best combination front three you’ll ever play in, to play for Bayern Munich,” the 57-year-old told talkSPORT.
“And you’ll coast for two years and ruin the best two years of his life as a footballer. Look at Wijnaldum, look at Coutinho.”
When presenter Natalie Sawyer weighed in by saying Mane could win trophies with the German giants, Saunders replied: “Yeah but he could do that at Liverpool!
“If he said to you at the end of his career ‘have a look at my trophy cabinet’, the German league winners’ medal with Bayern Munich would be right at the back of the cabinet.”
Mane is on the verge of ending his six-year spell with Liverpool, during which he was prolific and trophy-laden.
He has 120 goals in all competitions and has helped his team win the Premier League and the Champions League.
The Senegalese international is set to join Bayern Munich in a £35 million deal.
He is expected to take over for Robert Lewandowski, who is wanted by Barcelona.
