Mergim Berisha: Leeds consider second offer for Fenerbahce centre-forward

Fenerbahce center-forward Mergim Berisha may be the subject of a second offer from Leeds United given the Turkish club’s alleged “big crisis.”

The former U21 international for Germany rose through the ranks at Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. He spent time on loan with other teams before permanently leaving Salzburg in September 2021 when Fenerbahce made a move for him.

They reportedly paid Salzburg £4.5 million to give Berisha his first stint in the Turkish Super Lig, according to transfermarkt.

For Fenerbahce, Berisha scored four goals and provided two assists in 22 league games. Additionally, he scored twice in the Europa League, but his team was unable to advance past the group stage.

The remaining three years of Berisha’s Fenerbahce contract will keep him at the Sukru Saracoglu stadium until June 2025.

However, there are rumours that Leeds wants to sign him, so he might leave Turkey after only one season.

Omer Celikbasli of SPOR reports that the Whites recently sent a bid of £1.7 million for Berisha.

Fenerbahce reportedly valued Berisha at £4.25 million, so Leeds’ opening offer fell short of that figure.

According to reports, Fenerbahce is in a “big crisis” and must sell a number of their foreign players in order to comply with league regulations.
