In an effort to retake first place in the standings, Real Madrid travels to Real Valladolid at the José Zorilla.
Carlo Ancelotti’s team has 35 points after 14 games, two fewer than Barcelona, who have played 14. Since Barcelona’s match against Espanyol is scheduled for tomorrow, a victory would temporarily put Real Madrid atop the standings.
Due to an injury, Karim Benzema was unable to compete in the World Cup, but he has since recovered and played 30 and 45 minutes in friendlies against Leganés and Getafe, respectively. He’s likely to start tonight.
Real Valladolid managed to play better than many would have expected after missing the Spanish top division last season, earning 17 points from 14 games and currently occupying the 15th spot in the standings. If they win tonight, they’ll move up to the tenth spot right away.
