Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has tipped Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to replace him at the Etihad.
Guardiola was speaking ahead of Manchester City’s FA Cup final battle with Manchester United at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
It will be the Battle of the Balds at Wembley when the two managers meet on Saturday afternoon.
While Manchester United would be looking to make it two trophies this season, having won the Carabao Cup earlier, Manchester City, who have already won the Premier League title, are aiming for a treble with the Champions League final coming up next week against Inter Milan.
Ten Hag and Guardiola, were once colleagues who shared ideas until the former made name for himself at Ajax, taking a side full of rising stars to the Champions League semis in 2019
Only United have managed to win the treble in the Premier League, doing so memorably in 1999.
The two coaches worked together at Bayern Munich where Guardiola was head coach and Ten Hag was in charge of the reserve team.
Just weeks before Ten Hag was confirmed as the next United boss in 2022, Guardiola was asked if the Dutchman could succeed him on the other side of the city.
“Are you asking me if Erik Ten Hag could be here? Definitely.
Having won the Premier League, Guardiola is gunning for the treble and needs the FA Cup and Champions League to do it
“A lot could be here and I think he could be one of the ones. For the way he approaches the game, definitely, definitely. I will tell (director of football) Txiki (Begiristain) now!”
Speaking about their time at Bayern, Guardiola said, “We spoke quite regularly and he is just an incredible person and human being.
“I was surprised at how humble he was.
“For his qualities, just take a look at his Ajax team in the last few years.
“The relationship we had was good, especially when we talked about football and the second team, and with players he was exceptional.”
