Ahead of their FA Cup final on Saturday, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has responded to comments made by Manchester United assistant captain Bruno Fernandes
Guardiola’s City team could break Manchester United’s 1999 record at the Wembley on Saturday and achieve a treble this season if they are able to beat the Red Devils and lift the FA Cup.
The Cityzens have already claimed the Premier League trophy and have reached the Champions League final.
But Manchester United are determined to stop them from doing it and Fernandes recently spoke about the possibility of City becoming the second team to win a treble and saying that United fans don’t want City to do the treble.
The Portugal international said that Manchester United would win the trophy the consequence being that Man City cannot do the treble anymore.
Guardiola, responding to those remarks, said on Friday: “I didn’t speak with Bruno Fernandes and company to know exactly the reason why it means more to them, the emotional reason why they are going to play the final. I don’t know.
“I could understand it, it belongs to them. That’s normal. Sports are like that. Records will be broken. ‘That belongs to us, we don’t want anyone else to do it’ – so it is normal, that feeling.
“It’s completely understandable. But it’s a football game, who will be better will win.”
