Thomas Tuchel’s contract extension discussions have begun between Chelsea and the manager at Stamford Bridge.
When he replaced Frank Lampard in January 2021, the German initially signed an 18-month contract, but he soon extended it after leading the team to an unlikely Champions League victory.
Under new owner Todd Boehly, Tuchel, who once again led Chelsea to a top-four finish in the previous campaign, has been tasked with managing a radical change in the playing roster.
Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner are two recent high-profile players to leave west London, but Tuchel seems to have the support of the club’s board, as evidenced by his confirmation that negotiations for a new contract are in progress.
“My people talk to the owners and take care of everything else. You know how glad I am to be here and how much I like it,” Tuchel told his press conference ahead of the weekend clash with Leeds.
“There are talks but I think given the situation where we come from, and where we are in the middle of the transfer period, I think it is the very best if I focus on my team and on sports and on being competitive,” he added.
