EPL: Raphael Varane opens up on regrets joining Man Utd

Despite witnessing Real Madrid win the UEFA Champions League the previous year, Raphael Varane has insisted he does not regret leaving for Manchester United.
The French World Cup winner joined Manchester United last summer to much fanfare, but he struggled with niggling muscle injuries throughout the season. Varane missed 17 games in total during the 2021/22 season, when the Red Devils finished sixth.
While Manchester United struggled without Varane, Real Madrid soared to a Champions League and La Liga double.
When asked if he regretted his decision to move to Old Trafford, Varane responded, “Absolutely not.”
“I think in football you have to challenge yourself and you have to try to improve and I wanted to live another experience after 10 years in the same place – so, no.
“I think the Premier League is absolutely fantastic and Manchester United are a great club, so there was no doubt about my decision.”
The defender also discussed last season’s disappointment and how the club can improve in the future: “It was not the best season, the best results.
“Obviously I wanted to play a little bit more but that’s part of football and we’re looking forward for the next season. I think the confidence was something important and we lost the confidence when we lost some games.
“I think a lot of things we could do better and obviously we want to improve for the next season. I think we need consistency and we need to build this confidence.”
