The rumours that Manchester United want to save “a fortune” by keeping Anthony Martial have led to speculation that the Red Devils could return him to the first team for the upcoming season.
In September 2015, Manchester United paid £50 million to sign Martial from Monaco. He went on to score 79 goals and assist 50 times in 269 games for the club.
Martial has a wealth of talent, but he hasn’t always been able to live up to that high price tag or consistently show his talent.
The forward had his best season in 2019-20, when he scored 23 goals in 48 games. Martial made an impact for Manchester United, scoring 17 goals in the Premier League.
However, his scoring record deteriorated the following season, and he was loaned to Sevilla in January of this year.
Martial struggled in Spain, and Sevilla has no plans to sign him on a permanent basis.
According to reports, the 26-year-old is set to leave the Theatre of Dreams this summer. However, talkSPORT reports that he will return for the 2022-23 season.
United executives are attempting to persuade Erik ten Hag to use Martial in preseason and during the upcoming season.
