Georginio Wijnaldum, a former Premier League midfielder, reportedly wanted to join Manchester United and return to England, but Erik ten Hag did not want him.
From 2015–16 to 2020–21, Wijnaldum spent six seasons playing in England, first for Newcastle United and then for Liverpool. With the Magpies, he had his most successful season personally.
His first campaign in England saw him score 11 league goals and dished out five assists. After the 2015–16 season, Newcastle was demoted, and Wijnaldum was later traded to Liverpool for £24.75 million.
Wijnaldum played in 237 games during the successful Premier League and Champions League campaigns, missing just one.
His career has somewhat stalled since he left for Paris Saint-Germain last summer. Even though the French powerhouses won the league the previous season, Wijnaldum only started 18 league games and was frequently linked with a transfer away.
The midfielder has now made a move away from Paris, after joining just over a year ago. He has been loaned to Roma until the end of the season.
However, Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol claims that Wijnaldum might have returned to the Premier League.
Kaveh Solhekol said, “The player was willing to move to Manchester United.”
“I’ve been told that United were offered the chance to sign the player, who has won the title with Liverpool and Champions League,” Solhekol added.
“But Erik ten Hag didn’t want him.”
