Chelsea have agreed a fee of around £20 million with Aston Villa for the permanent transfer of Carney Chukwuemeka.
The 18-year-old has been granted permission to travel to London to discuss personal matters and to undergo medical examinations.
He played in 12 Premier League games last season, but only started twice. It’s believed he wants to play in more games in the top division.
Borussia Dortmund had inquired about signing him, and Barcelona had expressed interest. However, Chukwuemeka was eager to speak with Dortmund about the possibility after seeing the opportunities given to other young England exports like Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham.
Chukwuemeka, who was a member of the England U19 team that won the European Championship title this summer, had no interest in speaking with his longtime club about signing a new contract. He has been with the team since he was 12 years old.
