Sadio Mane won the Caf Awards ceremony in Rabat on Thursday, beating out Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah and Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
After El Hadji Diouf, Samuel Eto’o, Yaya Toure, and Mohamed Salah, the Senegal international wins his second African Player of the Year award, making him the fifth African to do so since Caf took over the award’s distribution in 1992.
After being named the best player on the continent, he is now two victories short of Eto’o and Toure, who both won the prize four times.
Pape Matar Sarr of Senegal and Tottenham Hotspur won the Young Player of the Year award, having beaten Hannibal Mejbri of Tunisia and Manchester United and Karim Konate of Cote d’Ivoire and ASEC/RB Salzburg.
