Sport journalist Guillem Balague has refuted claims that Liverpool are looking to terminate Arthur Melo loan agreement early.
The 26-year-old has so far only appeared in one game for Liverpool, entering for 13 minutes of the Champions League demolition of Napoli.
Liverpool are said to be keeping an eye on Arthur Melo’s development and haven’t drawn any hasty conclusions about his time at Anfield.
In the wake of those reports, it was stated that Liverpool was having unsettling second thoughts about Arthur. According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Reds could terminate the loan agreement early.
However, Spanish journalist Guillem Balague stated that Liverpool’s position is clear.
“Liverpool have not decided to extend the loan or buy Arthur but have no intention to send him back in January,” Balague claimed. “They are still assessing him.
“In fact the coaching staff congratulated him on his understanding of the system and his quality.”
Balague added that Arthur is putting in as much work as he can to become a key Liverpool midfield option as soon as possible.
“He decided to ignore days off to keep working as he knows he still has got to catch up with demands,” Balague wrote on Twitter.
“He’s working on an individualised fitness plan to get him up to speed because he didn’t have a regular pre season.
“Pretty standard stuff considering the lack of match fitness.”
On the final day of the transfer window this summer, the Reds acquired the Brazilian midfielder on loan from Juventus. Jurgen Klopp, the manager of Liverpool, initially insisted he didn’t want a new midfielder but quickly changed his mind.
And Liverpool turned to Arthur after a failed deal for at least one target, as revealed by Klopp.
The Brazilian international, who has 22 caps, began his career at Gremio before moving to Barcelona in 2018.
However, he had trouble making an impact at Camp Nou and left for Juventus in 2020.
