Alan Virginius: Newcastle battling Leverkusen for French star

Alan Virginius

According to a report, Newcastle is competing with Bayer Leverkusen for the signing of French youngster Alan Virginius and has a bid ready to go.

Teenage attacker Virginius competes for FC Sochaux in France’s second division. He can play either flank or as a centre forward, making him a versatile player.

In July 2020, he received his diploma from the Sochaux academy. Since then, he has played 50 times for the first team, scoring eight goals and providing four assists.

Virginius had 34 games in all competitions last season, recording five goals and two assists. Sochaux put on some impressive performances, but ultimately he was unable to return to the top flight.

Prior to defeating Paris FC in the first round of the promotion play-offs, they finished fifth. But the club’s hopes for the 2021–22 season were dashed when it lost to Auxerre in the following round.

The following campaign will likely be made without Virginius. He excelled for France at the U19 Euros, scoring three goals and dishing out three assists as they advanced to the semifinals.

Some important clubs have learned of his talent thanks to these outstanding performances. Le10Sport, a French publication, reports that the 19-year-old is currently “close to leaving” Sochaux.

In recent months, Newcastle, Bayer Leverkusen, and Club Brugge have all kept an eye on his progress.
