The Super Eagles managed to play a draw with the Warriors of Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifier.
It was their second draw in a space of 4 days following another 1-1 draw with a lowly rated Lesotho.
And from today’s matches, KemiFilani has made three observations.
The Super Eagles came from a goal down to manage a draw with Kelechi Iheanacho coming off the bench to save the day.
Walter Musona had put the home side ahead in the 26th minute but Iheanacho restored parity in the 67th. minute.
1. Kelechi Iheanacho: It was his 50th cap for the Super Eagles and he scored to save the day.
Iheanacho came off the substitute bench at the start of the second half and immediately made a significant impact.
It was Iheanacho’s 15th goal for the country on his 50th cap milestone.
2. Francis Uzoho is not the man:
The goalkeeper was beaten by another set piece. He has conceded from set pieces in three out of the last six games.
In the games against Saudi Arabia, Mozambique, and Lesotho it was the same story.
3. Jose Peseiro can do the job.
The Portuguese is not convincing with his tactics. They seem to be failing him at this point.
He made significant changes to the team to draw 1-1 with Lesotho in Uyo. He dropped the likes of Kelechi Iheanacho, Victor Boniface, and Ademola Lookman on the bench.
A decision that backfired with Zimbabwe taking the lead in the 26th minute.
The goal only came when he introduced Iheanacho, Bright Osayi-Samuel, and Victor Boniface, with the Leicester City forward capitalizing on a layoff from Moses Simon to equalize for the Super Eagles.
