Nigeria’s goalscorer in the disappointing 1-1 draw with Lesotho on Friday has said that they could not beat their opponent because they failed to utilise their chances.
Nigeria started their 2026 World Cup qualifying series on a very poor note and was heading for a defeat until Semi Ajayi came from defense to head Kelechi Iheanacho’s corner kick.
Ajayi said the Super Eagles never underrated the Crocodiles and had the best opportunities to win the game but were unable to utilise them.
Asked if the team underrated Lesotho, Ajayi said, “We took this game very seriously. We gave our best and didn’t take them lightly.
“We prepared for the game just like any other game but it’s just unfortunate we couldn’t win.
“We couldn’t take a few chances but we’ve learned some lessons and would come back stronger in the next game.”
