Usain Bolt, a track and field legend, has praised Tobi Amusan, a Nigerian who made history on the final day of the World Athletics Championships in Oregon, United States of America.
Amusan defeated rivals, including Olympic Champion Casmine Camacho-Quinn, to win the gold medal in the 100m women’s hurdles competition.
Amusan crossed the finish line at Hayward Field in 12.06 seconds after shattering the world record in an astounding semifinal with a time of 12.12 seconds.
The athlete from Ogun State is now the first African or Nigerian to win a gold medal in the competition thanks to her victory.
The former world’s fastest man, Bolt, celebrated Amusan on social media.
The Jamaican wrote on his Twitter account, “Superb #Tobi.”
KemiFilani reports that Amusan in the semi-finals broke the previous record, which was held by American Keni Harrison and stood at 12.20 seconds from 2016.
In addition, Amusan received a check for $100,000 for taking home the gold in the women’s 100-meter hurdles final, where she also broke her own record from the semi-final.
