WAFCON: CAF announces increase in prize money as winner to get N1.4bn

The prize money for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco in 2022, has been increased by 150 percent, as promised by CAF, in order to make women’s football in Africa competitive on a global scale.

The tournament will begin on Saturday evening at 21:30 local time, which is the same as 20:30 GMT. The match between the tournament hosts, Morocco, and Burkina Faso will take place at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium in Rabat.

The competition’s total prize pool has grown from USD 975 000 to USD 2 400 000 (N1.4bn), an increase of nearly USD 1.5 million.

Women’s football is one of CAF’s top priorities for the coming few years, according to the CAF President and CAF Executive Committee.

The winner of this year’s edition of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022 will pocket USD 500 000 – a 150% increase of USD 300 000. Previously, winners took home USD 200 000.

The prize money for the runners-up has increased from USD 125 000 to USD 225 000, nearly doubling, and the prize money for the semi-finalists has increased from USD 125 000 to USD 225 000.
