Tributes have continued to pour in as Jody Lukoki, a former Ajax and DR Congo winger dies at age 29.
According to the Sun, the 29-year-old player died while recovering from a catastrophic cruciate ligament injury.
Lukoki has previously represented Ajax, SC Cambuur, PEC Zwolle, Ludogorets Razgrad, Yeni Malatyaspor, and Twente in senior soccer.
“This morning FC Twente received the awful news that Jody Lukoki has died away,” Twente tweeted on Monday.
“The club is shocked and deeply moved by this tragic event.
“FC Twente sympathizes with his loved ones and wishes them a lot of strength in processing this great loss.”
Lukoki signed a two-year contract with Twente last summer, but due to a catastrophic knee injury sustained in pre-season training, he never played for the Dutch club.
When his contract with Twente expired in February, he left. The explanation given by the club was “events in his personal life.”
Lukoki, on the other hand, has been pushing up his recovery efforts in recent weeks in the hopes of finding a new club.
He had uploaded two photographs to Instagram, one of which he captioned with the phrase “working on my comeback.”
