Tottenham are still hoping to sign Nicolo Zaniolo before the transfer deadline, despite the fact that he dislocated his shoulder over the weekend, while Chelsea have joined the race.
Despite the fact that the Italy international may be out for some time with a shoulder injury sustained in their weekend victory over Cremonese, Roma recently rejected a first loan offer from Tottenham.
Spurs aren’t the only team interested in signing him, though; Chelsea and Juventus are also pushing for a deal.
Zaniolo is considered capable of playing at wing-back by Chelsea and Tottenham. This purported versatility contributed in part to the Blues’ interest in Raphinha prior to his summer transfer to Barcelona.
Conte recently stated that he prefers his wing-backs to have prior experience playing as wingers while at Spurs, saying:
“The wing-back is really important if you play with three at the back. They’re important because it’s no good if they are too defensive because in this position, you need to have quality. I like to have players that in the past was a winger because in this situation, they are good at one vs one.”
Roma are still open to selling Zaniolo if their €50m asking price is met.
