Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed why the Gunners are aiming to sign another top goalkeeper in the person of David Raya.
According to him, the move is to provide competition throughout the squad.
The north London giants are pushing to sign Brentford goalkeeper, Raya.
First choice goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has not disappointed Arsenal fans since joining from Sheffield United in a £30 million deal two years ago.
The Gunners have tabled an offer to Brentford this week for Raya, however, the bid does not meet Brentford’s £40m valuation for the Spaniard.
“I hope not”, Arteta said when asked if the England second-choice shot-stopper has felt under pressure to impress after their victory over Manchester City in the Community Shield on Sunday.
“Because the competition here always exists, whoever it is.
“That’s what it has to feel like, if we don’t feel like this, we’re not going to get the best out of each player.
“So we better feel like this and make sure we all feel like this, me first.”
