Thursday saw another international defeat for Nigeria’s Super Falcons women’s football team.
Following two outstanding goals, the host defeated the Falcons with an outstanding second half performance.
The game’s star performer was Mina Tanaka, who scored both goals—one of them a spectacular free kick—in the span of four second-half minutes to give Japan a well-deserved victory.
The match marked the third encounter between the two female footballing behemoths of the continent, but Japan triumphed over Nigeria.
The Super Falcons were without star forward, Asisat Oshoala but still had enough quality to get at least a draw against Japan.
It was not to be, though, as the Nigerians were unable to build on a strong first-half performance that ended scoreless.
Randy Waldrum’s Super Falcons have now lost their last five games after the result on Thursday.
Since the 2022 WAFCON loss to Morocco back in July, the Falcons have dropped all five of their games.
In that time, Super Falcons have scored just two goals while giving up ten.
