UEFA will not allow Manchester City to wear the Champions League trophy on their shirts next season.
This is despite the Cityzenes emerging victorious against Inter Milan in the final of this season’s competition in Istanbul, Turkey on Saturday.
Pep Guardiola guided his City side City to a historic treble and became the second English team to have won the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League in a single season.
But despite their success in Europe a badge of the trophy will not be on their City shirt next season because the UEFA Badge of Honour is not handed out just for winning Europe’s top competition once.
According to the Mirror, the Badge of Honour was introduced at the start of the 2000/2001 season and to wear the famous trophy, clubs have to win a European title either five times or three times in succession.
For this reason, Man City would be hoping to win more of the coveted trophy because at the moment, only Barcelona, Liverpool, Ajax, Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Real Madrid can wear the UEFA Badge of Honour.
