Following Sunday’s defeat to Argentina, Kylian Mbappe has vowed to lead France back to the World Cup final.
Mbappe and France lost to Argentina in a penalty shootout despite Mbappe becoming only the second player to ever score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, dashing their hopes of defending the title they won in 2018.
Mbappe, who later won the Golden Boot award for the tournament, has since shared a little message on Instagram for his followers.
“We’ll be back,” Mbappe wrote to his followers.
The Paris Saint-Germain front has risen to sixth on the all-time World Cup scoring rankings, tying with Brazilian legend Pele on 12 goals and completing the feat in the same amount of games, 14.
On 13, Mbappe is followed by club teammate Lionel Messi and fellow Frenchman Just Fontaine. Having scored all 13 goals for Les Bleus in six games in 1958, Fontaine holds the tournament scoring record for that team.
Ronaldo, a Brazilian, is in second position with 15, followed by Gerd Muller on 14. German Miroslav Klose, who scored 16 goals in 24 games between 2002 and 2014, is at the lead.
