Paul Pogba, a midfielder for Juventus, has torn the meniscus in his knee and will see a specialist to decide what to do next, the club has confirmed.
Pogba returned to Turin on a free transfer this summer, six years after leaving for Manchester United, and made his unofficial second debut for the club in Friday’s win over Chivas Guadalajara.
A glamorous friendly against Barcelona is scheduled for early Wednesday morning, but Juventus has confirmed that Pogba will not play.
“Following the pain reported in his right knee, Paul Pogba was subjected to radiological investigations which revealed a lesion of the lateral meniscus,” the club reported.
“In the next few hours he will undergo a specialist orthopedic consultation. Therefore, he will not take part in the trip to Dallas to continue treatment.”
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Pogba will need surgery on the injury and will be out for at least two months, putting his first appearance for the club in early October.
Pogba could miss nine games in the next two months if he misses the next two months, including the first two group-stage games of the 2022/23 Champions League campaign.
Pogba’s latest setback is a continuation of the injury issues that plagued his final season at Old Trafford.
