Napoli has said they won’t fine Victor Osimhen for his late return to the Italian side after his involvement with the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Osimhen was reported to have returned late to Italy after the two World Cup play-offs fixtures Nigeria had with Ghana.
The alleged late return saw the 23-year-old missing second-place Napoli’s 3-1 victory against Atalanta.
Reacting to reports by La Gazzetta dello Sport on Osimhen’s return, Napoli director Cristiano Giuntoli stated that the striker was given permission to take enough time off.
This is as he stated that there is no basis for a fine as being reported in the media.
“We don’t understand why there is controversy around this, because he was given permission to take time off after international duty and he arrived on schedule,” Giuntoli told DAZN.
“He is an extraordinary lad, a great professional, so the question ought to be why these things emerge in the media. Of course, there won’t be a fine, he was given permission.”
