Feyenoord’s Cyriel Dessers sends emotional farewell to fans

Cyriel Dessers

Following the conclusion of his loan spell at Feyenoord Rotterdam, Cyriel Dessers has written an emotional message to the club’s supporters.

Last summer, Dessers joined Arne Slot’s side on a season-long loan from Belgian Pro League club KRC Genk.

Despite a slow start, the 27-year-old had a memorable time at the Stadion Feijenoord.

Dessers, who was born in Belgium to a Belgian father and a Nigerian mother, was the star of Feyenoord’s UEFA Europa League campaign.

The Nigerian scored 10 goals in 12 appearances to win the competition’s top scorer award.

Feyenoord, on the other hand, announced on Wednesday that they will not pursue the option of signing him to a permanent contract because they cannot afford the €4 million demanded by Genk.

Following the announcement, the striker took to social media to thank the club and fans for their support during his time at the club.

“Thanks for all the support and love this season, it was an honor to play for you! Hopefully see you soon. Long live Feyenoord 1!” Dessers said in a tweet.

He is expected to play in an international friendly between Nigeria and Ecuador on Thursday night.
