Gabriel Jesus was not present at Arsenal’s training session on Wednesday ahead of their Europa League match against Bodo/Glimt.
During the Gunners’ 3-2 victory over Liverpool at the weekend, the 25-year-old summer acquisition was caught by a flailing arm from Kostas Tsimikas. He appeared to be in some discomfort before leaving the field a short while later.
Manager Mikel Arteta acknowledged following the game that he was not overly worried about the seriousness of Jesus’ injury.
“I don’t know, I haven’t been with the doctor yet, I’m sure they are checking him, he seemed ok after the game, I don’t know actually what happened but we’ll assess how well he is,” he said on Sunday.
Jesus, however, was absent from training on Wednesday, raising questions about his head injury.
Arsenal has not yet provided an explanation for Jesus’ absence.
While Eddie Nketiah, 23, has the opportunity to shine in the Europa League, Jesus, who has yet to start a game this season, has been rested. It’s likely that Arteta would start Nketiah against Bodo/Glimt anyhow.
However, Arteta will undoubtedly be anxious to see his top scorer back at his best as soon as possible given that Premier League games against Leeds and Jesus’ former employers, Manchester City, are coming up in the following seven days.
