Manchester United’s hopes of signing midfielder Fabian Ruiz as a replacement for Frenkie de Jong have been dashed, with the Napoli star on the verge of joining PSG.
Since taking over as United manager from Ralf Rangnick, Erik ten Hag has made De Jong his top target in terms of transfers. A deal worth £71.7 million is rumoured to be finalised for the Netherlands international.
However, Premier League rival Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly also interested in signing the talented midfielder, giving the Red Devils stiff competition.
Given that Ruiz has been on United’s radar for some time, Ten Hag has been forced to consider other options.
Ruben Neves and Youri Tielemans are still candidates to join Manchester United at Old Trafford. And given a Fabrizio Romano update, it’s possible that United will have to turn to the Premier League.
According to the transfer insider, Ruiz is en route to Paris after having a last month’s approach from West Ham rejected. Apparently, a £21 million deal is in the works.
The low price is due to the fact that the international player from Spain only has one year left on his Napoli contract.
Ruiz was one of Napoli’s top performers last season as they finished third in Serie A. And it would appear that he is heading to Paris rather than PSG.
