Another round of Premier League play has concluded, and this week’s squad of the week was difficult to choose.
There were fantastic performances all around the division, and you could make a case for another ten or so players to make the final cut.
Here is the fortunate XI who made it:
1. GK: Illan Meslier (Leeds United)
Meslier made nine saves as Leeds inflicted a rare Anfield defeat on Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
There were other outstanding goalkeeping performances this week, but Meslier’s brilliance on such a big stage makes him unbeatable.
2. RB: Diogo Dalot (Manchester United)
Dalot’s resurgence as a top right-back continued this weekend as Manchester United defeated West Ham 1-0.
Dalot was a huge presence on both ends of the field, creating four chances and grabbing three interceptions.
3. CB: James Tarkowski (Everton)
Everton struggled against Fulham and were at points clinging on for dear life, giving Tarkowski a lot of work to do.
Five tackles and four clearances for the centre-back, who worked well with goalkeeper Jordan Pickford to get a point for his team.
4. CB: Lisandro Martinez (Manchester United)
Martinez, on the left side of our center-back duo, has yet again been a standout for United.
Martinez faced West Ham’s tall striker Gianluca Scamacca for an hour before fending off the threat of Michail Antonio, who was full of energy and running during the Hammers’ dominant spell.
5. LB: Pervis Estupinan (Brighton)
Chelsea’s dubious setup set the scenario for Brighton’s Pervis Estupinan to steal the show.
Estupinan completely terrorised Chelsea’s defense line in the role that Marc Cucurella burst in last season, and it was his never-ending zeal that created Trevoh Chalobah’s own goal.
6. RM: Reiss Nelson (Arsenal)
Nelson made the most of his opportunity after coming off the bench to replace the injured Bukayo Saka against Nottingham Forest.
The Arsenal winger finished with two goals and an assist, more than he had in his previous 23 outings in the competition.
7. CM: Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City)
Kevin De Bruyne had no assists this week, only a screamer of a free-kick.
Manchester City defeated Leicester with exquisite ball movement, banging off the post.
8. CM: Moises Caicedo (Brighton)
Brighton’s midfield dominated Chelsea’s from the start on Saturday, and Caicedo’s intensity was a big part of that.
Alexis Mac Allister can consider himself unlucky not to have made it in as well.
9. LM: Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)
100th Machester United goals for Rashford whose rebirth at could not have come at a better time.
Marcus Rashford’s first half header saw the Red Devils grab all three points against West Ham on Sunday.
10. ST: Callum Wilson (Newcastle United)
Wilson, speaking of World Cup aspirants, could not be doing more to press his way into the squad.
Wilson had two goals and an assist as Newcastle ran wild against Aston Villa, bolstering their bid for a Champions League position.
11. Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal)
Surprisingly, Jesus did not score in Arsenal’s 5-0 thrashing of Forest, but he did contribute two assists and an overall strong effort.
What a find he’s turned out to be.
