Former Premier League star Jamie Carragher has warned West Ham United’s highly sought-after midfielder Declan Rice against joining Arsenal this summer, saying trophies are not guaranteed at the Emirates.
Arsenal have appeared as a clearer destination for the England international this summer with Arsenal willing to pay West Ham’s asking price for the midfielder.
Rice is keen to leave West Ham this summer after leading the Hammers to win the Europa Conference League during the 2022/23 season.
The England midfielder is also linked with Liverpool, Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
“It is difficult with Declan Rice, and I think Harry Kane falls into this one too, they are at clubs that probably are not going to challenge for the Premier League or Champions League,” Carragher told Metro UK.
“But unless you go to Man City, there is no guarantee you are going to come out with trophies that you want.
“But you want to give yourself the opportunity and the tough question for Arsenal heading into next season is whether this was a one-off or whether they can be consistent and challenge the biggest sides because it has not happened for a long time.
“I always felt he [Declan Rice] would end up at Chelsea, but he could go to Arsenal and it could go great for him. He’s a step up from what they have got, but there is no guarantee he will go on to win the biggest trophies with them.”
