Owen Hargreaves, a former Manchester United player has tipped Old Trafford newcomer Antony to be a regular in Erik ten Hag’s plan.
On deadline day, Manchester United signed Antony from Ajax in a big-money transfer.
Given the sum Manchester United paid to acquire Antony, there will be high expectations for the player. But it will be his first exposure to Premier League football.
The newly acquired player will have a great deal of success in his new surroundings, according to former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves.
Indeed, Hargreaves has explained how Antony stands out for his pressing abilities, in addition to the fact that he will contribute to many goals.
“This is a proper Brazilian player with flair. He will bring entertainment, goals and assists,” Hargreaves told BT Sport.
“I think what not many people know about him is he’s brilliant on the press. He can initiate the press above the pitch.
“He’s obviously creative too. I think Man Utd fans are going to love him. They’ve paid a lot of money for him but I think he will be a fantastic signing.
“He’s got tricks and creativity but he’s also got personality. Winning the ball back is a big thing in Ten Hag’s system and he will fit in like a glove with that.”
Manchester United will be expected to use Antony frequently after spending a sizable sum to bring him in.
In turn, Hargreaves speculates that there might be fewer opportunities for a near-namesake.
“Anthony Elanga will come out,” the pundit predicted.
“Antony will play on the right-hand side, Jadon [Sancho] will go to the left and Marcus [Rashford] and Anthony [Martial] will be the two with Cristiano [Ronaldo] up top.
“When you pay that money for a player, he’s going to play. He has to play.”
