Cristiano Ronaldo appeared to leave Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano early on Sunday.
The forward returned to action for the Red Devils in a preseason friendly, playing only 45 minutes. A picture from a fan, obtained by the Manchester Evening News, appeared to show Ronaldo leaving the match early after his halftime substitution.
The 37-year-old is making his team debut after previously missing time due to concern over his future at Old Trafford. This has led to speculation that he may leave the club in order to make the most of his remaining years as a professional footballer.
Chelsea has been linked with a shock move, with owner Todd Boehly meeting with agent Jorge Mendes over the summer. At this point, no agreement has been reached, leaving Ronaldo in limbo at United with one month remaining in the transfer window.
United manager Erik ten Hag has insisted the striker is not for sale in the current transfer window despite his uncertain future, previously stating: “We are planning for Cristiano Ronaldo for the season and that’s it. I’m looking forward to working with him. I have read [that he wants to leave], but what I say is Cristiano is not for sale, he is in our plans and we want success together.”
