Brighton midfielder, Enock Mwepu, has announced the end of his football career, saying he has been diagnosed with hereditary heart condition.
Mwepu made this known on Monday in a statement shared on Twitter.
The 24-year-old said, “A boy from a small Zambian township called Chambishi has some news to share. He stood strong to follow his dream of playing football at the highest level and by the grace of God, he lived his dream by reaching the Premier League.”
Mwepu shared the reason he had to hang his boots and his plans to stay involved in football in other capacity even though he wouldn’t be able to play anymore.
“Some dreams however come to an end, so it is with sadness that I announce the need to hang my boots because of the medical advice I have received. This is however not the end of my involvement with football, I plan to stay involved in some capacity,” he said.
Reacting, a Twitter user, @therealdaddymo1, said, “So sorry to hear this Enock. Thank you for the memories and for the gentleman you are. All the very best for the future. God bless you.”
@brightonzm said, “This is why I don’t trust my village people… Very sad indeed.. I know how witchcraft looks like nobody can tell me otherwise, this is pure buloshi.”
@best_since_98 said, “This is really hard to take. We have stood by you since your early football days Champ. The Under 17 Africa cup and World Cup will always be fresh in our memories. Celebrated victories together now we cry together. We’ll always stand by your side. Thank you.”
