The Ballon d’Or Feminin, the top individual prize in women’s football, is in it’s fifth year after first being awarded by France Football in 2018.
The winner at the time was Ada Hegerberg, with Alexia Putellas serving as the award’s final recipient in 2021. While there was no trophy presented in 2020, Megan Rapinoe also received the honour.
The Ballon d’Or has changed a little this year and for the first time is being awarded based on a full season instead of a calendar year as has typically been the case. The ceremony in October 2022 where the winner will be announced is when this change will take effect.
Barcelona made another final during the 2021/22 season, but Lyon reclaimed their title as the Champions League’s reigning European champions. The nominations are expected to be significantly impacted by Euro 2022, which England won.
