Mohammed Jubrin, a painter, was given a 13-month prison term on Thursday by a Dei-dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja for stealing two cell phones worth N870,000.

Jubrin was charged with theft by the police.

Malam Saminu Suleiman, the Area Court judge, did offer the convict the chance to pay an N40,000 fine, though.

The defendant had previously admitted guilt and begged the court for mercy.

Earlier, Mr. Olanipekun Babajide, the prosecutor, informed the court that on February 5, Alexander Permenos of Gbazango West off Arab Road, Kubwa Abuja, filed a complaint at the Dawaki police station.

Babajide said the convict stole the complainant’s iPhone worth N800,000 and Samsung cell phone worth N70,000.

He said that during police investigation the convicts made a confessional statement admitting to the crime.

Babajide said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
