On Monday, an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun sentenced a 38-year-old man, Iruka Onyeckachi, to three months in prison for stealing N90,000 cash and a woman’s bag.
Onyeckachi, whose address was not provided, was charged with stealing and pleaded guilty.
Mrs. A.O.Adeyemi, the Magistrate, sentenced the convict to three months in prison and a N2,000 fine in her ruling.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. E.O.Adaraloye, told the court that the convict committed the offence on Dec.24, 2022 at about 8.00 a.m.at Aro 1 Cashier, Aparadija,Itele-Awori,Ota.
Adaraloye said the defendant stole the money from the bag of the complainant, Promise Nneomo, before he was apprehended by a good Samaritan and handed over to the police.
He said that the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Vol.1, Law of Ogun, 2006.(NAN)
