A 22-year-old trader named Kingsley Isaac was given a three-month prison term by a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja on Monday for stealing two chickens worth N8,000.
The police accused Isaac Yimi Zuba of stealing in Abuja.
Malam Saminu Suleiman, the Area Court judge, did offer Isaac a choice of a N10,000 fine, though.
Suleiman also mandated that the prisoner give the complainant N45,000 in restitution.
Earlier, Mr. Chinedu Ogada, the prosecution attorney, informed the court that the conviction was for an offence that occurred on March 11.
According to Ogada, Abdullaziz Salihu of the same address filed a police report about the incident on March 11 at the Zuba Police Station.
Ogade said on the same date at about 2:am the convict went to the complainant’s house and made away with his two chickens valued N8,000 with out his consent.
.He said the convict opened the complainant’s car and stole car parts worth N35, 000 and sold it to unknown person.
Ogada said that Isaac was later caught and handed over to the police for proper investigation.
The prosecutor added that during police investigation and interrogation the convict made a confessional statement.
The offence, he said, contravenes the provisions of sections 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
