The Lagos State Police Command claims to have discovered plans by some individuals to use the new Naira note shortage to erupt in violence in some areas of the state.
This was revealed in a statement made on Monday in Lagos by SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s spokesman.
“The Command hereby warns these groups to shelve their planned violence or have the full weight of the law to contend with,” he said.
On the show of force on Monday by some security agencies in the state, Hundeyin urged the residents and visitors not to panic as the Police, in conjunction with other security agencies were embarking on confidence-building patrols across the Lagos metropolis.
He called on all law-abiding people in Lagos to go about their lawful duties without any fear of harassment or intimidation.
The spokesman assured the residents of optimal deployment of human and operational resources towards guaranteeing their safety and security.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the police, military, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Directorate of State Security were seen on Monday morning in a long convoy for a show of force in different parts of the Lagos. (NAN)
