Movie Review: Is Christmas in Miami another feel good movie or a flop?

Movie Review Christmas in Miami

For those who have been following Ayo Makun’s movies, they had an expectation when Christmas in Miami came out. Considering it was produced for Christmas, let’s see how best the film captured the essence of Christmas and met viewers’ expectations.

Christmas In Miami is a story around a Christmas centred competition where people from different countries competed to win 1 million dollars through varieties of games.

The crux of the competition was to promote the spirit of Christmas and the essence of Christmas, which is love and unity.

For a feel-good movie, the storyline wasn’t bad at all. While the writer really wanted to create a subtle, comic story, the film still had its message, which shows a well-thought-out script.

The dialogues were relatable, and references to certain celebrity situations like Ozo and Nengi even made the comic scenes funnier. Well, the story was quite predictable, but that is forgivable because it is a Feel-Good movie.

The directing was a good shot too. Although there were some flaws, like Nigeria, winning a particular section of the competition when they obviously didn’t do well was questionable. However, the casting was perfect, and the director deserves kudos for that.

The acting is highly commendable, and all the actors obviously did an excellent job in interpreting their different roles. Somehow, the acting added spice of its own into the movie and if there is one thing that actually held Christmas in Miami up high, it would be the acting.

The songs in Christmas in Miami are another notable part of the movie, and it is good that a lot of attention was paid to the kind of songs sung in the film. Unlike singing the familiar Christmas songs which one would have expected would be played, the songs were “funkified” and thus made the film even more interesting to watch. I mean, you are likely to be eager about the next song to come up and see how the song was modified.’

As for the costume, makeup and the production as a whole, it wasn’t a bad shot, and it is definitely better than the other films AY had produced in the past.

Christmas in Miami also did well in capturing the essence of Christmas, and it was really the perfect movie to have been released on Christmas eve.

Ratings? Christmas in Miami would get a 7/10
