We have seen the red-carpet fashion scene in Nigeria evolve over the years, from celebrities wearing clothes that can be purchased at local boutiques to collaborating with fashion designers who create custom pieces that frequently cause a buzz on social media.
For many celebrities, the red carpet is an opportunity to demonstrate the legitimacy of their fashion icon status by making a style statement with their clothes, outfits, or the theatricality of their entrances and poses. The point is that this is a time when they take the adage “Go big or go home” seriously.
We’re going down memory lane and recalling some of our favourite red carpet moments.
Tiannah: The popular stylist and reality star knows how to make a statement at the AMVCA, as she wears a gown with a bull’s head on the waist. This is known as “grabbing the competition by the horns.”
Denrele Edun: Aside from his vivacious personality, this presenter lit up the red carpet at the 2022 AMVCA. Denrele taught us the importance of lighting at an event by drawing inspiration from Katy Perry’s Met gala look.
Diane Russet: Could you please circulate a petition prohibiting red-carpet intimidation? This outfit is stunning in every way. This is what we call a work of art, from the hair to the pose.
Mercy Aigbe: What happens when the Regency of London collides with an Ojuju-themed ball? Simple, a gold metallic gown with soft fabric that reflects the heritage of both England and Africa.
Ebun Dosumu: It’s raining money on the red carpet, according to Ebun Dosumu. Ebun wears a gown with a red bodice and layers of money-printed fabric at the bottom, in keeping with the theme of the film premiere, Blood Covenant.
