Iheanacho, five other Super Eagles’ players join Ekong in camp ahead of Cameroon clash

At least six new players including Kelechi Iheanacho, have touched based at the camp of the Super Eagles in Austria, ahead of their friendly game against Cameroon on Friday.

Aside from Iheanacho, Oghenekaro Etebo, John Noble, Abraham Marcus, Emmanuel Anayo, and Abdullahi Shehu are now in camp.

The number of players in camp has increased to 17.

Others in camp are Maduka Okoye, Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Chidozie Awaziem, Jamilu Collins, Terem Moffi, Peter Olayinka, Samson Tijani and Valentine Ozornwafor

Their arrival is a massive boost for Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr, who has been forced to deal with many withdrawals.

Six players, including Victor Osimhen, have already pulled out of the 24-man squad, leaving Rohr with just 18 players.

Nigeria take on Cameroon in a doubleheader friendly encounter, with the first match taking place on Friday before the second game on Tuesday.

The Super Eagles have met their arch-rivals 22 times, winning 11 times and losing just four games, with the rest ending in draws.

Buhari writes Senate to confirm Farouk Yahaya as new Chief of Army Staff

President Muhammadu Buhari has asked the Senate to confirm Maj.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya as Chief of Army Staff (COAS).

Buhari’s request was contained in a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan and read during Tuesday’s plenary.

"I hereby forward for confirmation by the Senate, the appointment of Maj.-Gen. Farouk Yahaya as the Chief of Army Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“His CV is herewith attached. It is my hope that the Senate will consider and confirm the nominee in the usual expeditious manner.

“Please accept Distinguish Senate President, the assurances of my highest consideration," the letter reads.

Injury blow for Cameroon ahead of Super Eagles friendly

Cameroon will be without Jean Onana for their friendly against Nigeria next week.

The Lille ace who has won just two caps, was among the 28 players called up by head coach Antonio Conceicao for the double-header.

But the 21-year-old has pulled out of the squad as a result of injury, according to Actu Cameroon.

Royal Excel Muscron winger, Serge Tabekou, has been called up by the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) as Onana’s replacement.

The Indomitable Lions open their training camp for the Super Eagles clash on Monday, May 31.

The former African champions face a depleted Nigerian squad hit with several withdrawals due to injuries and club commitments.
