Buhari hails Tosin Amusan, Ese Brume, Team Nigeria

President Muhammadu Buhari has greeted Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume on their feet at the World Athletics Championship.

Amusan ran an incredible 12.40 seconds (+1.5m/s) in her opening performance at the events in Oregon, USA. This meant she set a new African record and Nigeria’s fastest time in the history of the competition in the women’s 100mH event.

On her part, Brume won silver medal in the Long Jump event.

Reacting, Buhari, in a statement on Monday, said the athletes represented Nigeria with honour and pride.

He wrote on Twitter, “I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating Tobi Amusan and her stellar performance, at the World Athletics Championships 2022. Her new World Record and Gold Medal have brought excitement and joy and hope to all of us, and made our national anthem resonate on a global stage.

“I also commend and celebrate Ese Brume for her long jump Silver Medal. #TeamNigeria have represented us with honour & pride; displaying courage, integrity and good sportsmanship, and proving that with hard work & determination, success is achievable.”
