Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has hailed Arsenal boss, Mikel Arteta, for signing goalkeeper David Raya.
According to him, there was no way Arsenal would have won the Premier League with Aaron Ramsdale as their goalkeeper.
Arteta signed Raya on a season long loan from Brighton in the summer.
But Ramsdale kept his number spot, starting Arsenal’s first four Premier League games.
However, Arteta decided to drop the Englishman to the bench at the weekend with Raya taking his place in their 1-0 win over Everton.
Raya was also in goal last night when Arsenal beat PSV 2-0 in the Champions League.
Arsenal have been criticised for signing Raya and for having two first-choice goalkeepers.
But Carragher said, “I understand having two goalkeepers of a similar ability, I understand mentally it might be a problem for the goalkeeper,” Carragher said.
“But surely if Mikel Arteta thinks he can get a better goalkeeper in the building, he has to make that signing to make Arsenal a better team.”
He added Raya is “100 per cent” better than Ramsdale.
“Arsenal will never win the league with Ramsdale in goal, no chance.
“Ramsdale is playing for Arsenal and he can’t even get in the England team.”
