Inter Milan Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Beppe Marotta has revealed why Chelsea star Cesar Azpilicueta rejected a move to San Siro despite agreement with the Serie A giants.
Chelsea have informed their veteran defender that they will no longer be needing his services from next season.
Marotta claimed that Azpilicueta was more ‘tempted’ by Atletico Madrid’s proposal despite their own talks with the Spaniard.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Azpilicueta is set to join Atletico Madrid this summer.
This is despite having a verbal agreement in place to join Inter Milan.
Marotta said the Spaniard is more tempted by Atletico’s proposal.
“It seems that he’s tempted by a proposal from Spain [Atlético Madrid] and so he’s negotiating with them.
“We considered Azpilicueta as a good option but he’s focused on this bid from Spain,” he said, according to Romano.
