Former Premier League striker Dean Sounders has hailed Wilfried Zaha’s decision to join Turkish giants, Galatasaray, this summer.
Some are criticising the player for an apparent lack of ambition by leaving Crystal Palace and the Premier League for the Turkish Super Lig.
But Saunders made the same move during his career, and he said it was one of the best decisions he ever made and Zaha will love his time out there.
“I played for Galatasaray, and I’m so pleased I went,” Saunders told talkSPORT
“I always wanted to have a go at playing in another country, and I couldn’t have picked a better club. It’s an absolutely magnificent club to play for.
“The league is not as good as the Premier League, but they’re in the Champions League and you’re playing in front of fans… I can’t explain what it’s like.
“You couldn’t hear yourself speak on the pitch, there’s red and yellow smoke when you come out for the warm-up, and fans are already at the stadium at 12pm for a 7pm kick-off.
“I’m proud to have played for them, I’ve got great memories of playing for them, and when I look back on my career playing for Galatasaray is one of the best experiences I’ve had in all the time I played.”
